Today, both gold and silver are trading on the lower side of the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). Gold futures maturing on October 5, 2021, stand at Rs 46,938 per 10 grams, witnessing a downfall of 0.25 per cent or Rs 118.
Meanwhile, silver futures, maturing on December 3, 2021, are retailing at Rs 64,001 per kg today. Silver has recorded a dip of 0.42 per cent or Rs 272 on the MCX today.
On Wednesday, gold stood at Rs 46,961 per 10 grams, while silver traded at Rs 64,621 per kg with a marginal jump of 0.04 per cent or Rs 27. The prices of gold and silver stood at Rs 47,038 and Rs 64,183, respectively, when the market closed on Wednesday.
Gold and Silver prices on international market:
In the international market, gold prices were held near two-week lows on Thursday due to the pressure of a stronger U.S. dollar, news agency Reuters reported. Meanwhile, investors eagerly awaited a policy decision by the European Central Bank (ECB).
Meanwhile, spot gold remained unchanged at $1,789.39 per ounce after it touched its lowest level since August 26 and U.S. gold futures eased 0.1 per cent to $1,790.80.
In August, the U.S. economy ‘downshifted slightly’ due to the surge of coronavirus that hit the travel and tourism sectors, the Fed said. The policy decision of the ECB is expected to take a step further towards unwinding the pandemic-era emergency economic assistance.
In another significant development, the World Platinum Investment Council (WPIC) told Reuters that it expects that the global platinum market would be surplus this year. Silver witnessed a dip of 0.1 per cent to $23.94 and platinum also dropped 0.4 per cent to $975.78 per ounce.
