Harmony Gold reports fatality at Moab Khotsong, operations suspended in the affected section

image(Kitco News) – Harmony Gold Mining today announced that an employee was fatally injured this morning, following a fall of ground incident at its Moab Khotsong mine, near Orkney, in the North West province of South Africa.

The company said that authorities and organised labour were informed and an investigation into the incident is currently underway. Operations in the affected section have been suspended in the interim, Harmony added.

“The executives and management of Harmony extend their sincerest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of our deceased colleague. The company continues to strive towards its goal of zero loss of life and will ensure that
the necessary support is provided to the family in dealing with this tragedy,” said CEO Peter Steenkamp.
