Letter: Marvelling at Monet’s palette of vibrant hues

Sarah Raven’s advice on planting for colour (“The gardener’s palette”, FT Weekend, April 3) might remind readers that artist Claude Monet planted his garden at Giverny over a century ago with an acute eye for colour. Beds of flowers range from the “hot” reds and oranges in the west of the garden to the “cold” blues and whites in the east. They create an amazing palette of vibrant hues. As for Monet, it is the impression — that moment in time — which the garden evokes. It is unfortunate that the garden is currently closed due to the pandemic, just as the spring flowers are coming into bloom.
