The Alaska – Alberta Railway Development Corporation (A2A Rail) was greenlit by the U.S. administration over the weekend.
The 1,600 mile long railway would link south-central Alaska ports and northern Alberta.
In a Tweet President Trump said he will be issuing a Presidential Permit for the A2A Cross-Border Rail between Alaska & Canada.
Based on the strong recommendation of @SenDanSullivan and @repdonyoung of the Great State of Alaska, it is my honor to inform you that I will be issuing a Presidential Permit for the A2A Cross-Border Rail between Alaska & Canada. Congratulations to the people of Alaska & Canada!

Regulatory approvals are still pending from Canadian and U.S. authorities. Cost of the line is estimated at $22 billion, according to a report by CBC.
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney supported the development.
“The Government of Alberta is glad to see the approval of the A2A rail project in the United States,” said a Ma href=”https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/a2a-railway-1.5740678″>spokesperson for the Alerta premier.
“We support the development of trade corridors that can unlock new markets for Alberta’s products.”
