At least 52 dead, including 6 rescuers, in methane explosion at Russian coal mine

image(Kitco News) – According to preliminary data, at least 52 people, including 6 rescuers, died as a result of a methane explosion at the Listvyazhna coal mine in Kuzbass, Russia.

This was reported today by the local news agency RIA Novosti, citing emergency services.

Earlier it was reported about 11 dead miners and 3 rescuers. The fate of 38 people remained unknown. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia admitted that there is practically no chance of finding them alive.

So far, three people have been detained – the director of the mine, his first deputy and the head of the mining section, the Investigative Committee of Russia said.
