The US secret service shot a person outside the White House, President Donald Trump said, shortly after he was abruptly pulled out of a press briefing.
The president told reporters on Monday that a person had been shot and taken to hospital outside the White House, but gave few other details. Mr Trump said he had heard reports that two shots had been fired.
Mr Trump walked out of the scheduled press briefing after a secret service official came up to him at the podium. The briefing resumed a few minutes later.
The president said: “Somebody was taken to the hospital. It seems that the shooting was done by law enforcement at that person — it was the suspect who was shot.”
